What type of grass do I need?

The type of grass that you need requires on the amount of sunlight that your location receives.

All types of grass want as much sunlight as possible!

  • Bermudagrass requires full sunlight (8+ hours of sunlight)

  • Centipedegrass can withstand partial shade (6-8 hours of sunlight)

  • Zoysiagrass can withstand the most shade of any type of grass in our area (4-6 hours of sunlight)

  • St. Augustine grass is like Zoysiagrass in its shade tolerance but in our area can have problems with winter kill due to its lack of cold tolerance

How much do I need to water my new sod?

This Depends on the time of year. In the winter, when the sod is dormant, a few light waterings on warm days will suffice. As the weather begins to warm up watering frequencies should increase as the grass begins to come out of dormancy. In the summer, HEAVY watering is required! We recommend to water new sod for 30 min - 1hour a day for the first week or two. After that, keep enough water on it to keep the soil under the sod moist.

How long do I need to wait to mow my new sod?

After installing new sod you should wait a couple of weeks before mowing. To know if your grass is ready to be mowed, gently pull on the sod, if it does not lift off the ground it is ready to be mowed.
